Rachel Scholes

Youth Choir, Piano, Pre-Piano, and Voice

Rachel Scholes has been involved in music since the age of five, when she began taking piano lessons. As a child, she sang in the church choir and played the clarinet in band. She also was involved in musicals and choir in high school. Rachel started teaching piano lessons in high school, after shadowing and assisting her own piano teacher. It was this teacher who heard Rachel sing, during a piano recital rehearsal, and urged Rachel to take voice lessons. Rachel began taking voice lessons in preparation for college scholarship auditions. She found that she was passionate about singing! She graduated from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville with a bachelor’s degree in music education, in 2003. While in college, Rachel was invited to travel to Pitten, Austria to perform in the Pitten Music Festival. Rachel rehearsed and performed for three weeks, singing in the choir and as a soloist, in various venues. In college, Rachel also took part in the Madrigal Singers and Opera Workshops. 

After graduating, she taught general music and junior high/high school choir for five years in public schools. At this time, Rachel decided to stay home with her babies. She continued to teach private voice and piano lessons, in her home, for thirteen years. In addition, Rachel began an early childhood music class that took place in a daycare setting. In this class, children learned about instruments and rhythms, read basic music notation, and had fun playing instruments, singing, and moving to music. 

Most recently, Rachel has been an online teacher for students learning English in China. She has a wide variety of teaching experiences and is thrilled to be a part of the Market Street Music Conservatory. Rachel resides in Marion with her husband and five children. She enjoys walking/hiking, reading, crocheting, and of course, singing.
